3D modelling in Perth

Element Mechanical Design provides professional CAD services in Perth for custom components, machine assemblies and industrial equipment. We produce precise 3D models and complete drawing packages in SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360 and CATIA, and deliver files ready for manufacture, simulation or certification.

Engineering drawings that are actually ready to manufacture

A lot of CAD work gets delivered looking great on screen and falling apart at the workshop. Dimensions missing. Tolerances not called out. Weld prep left to interpretation. We dont do that.

Every drawing package we deliver is production-ready. Tolerances, surface finishes, GD&T, material callouts, weld symbols — all of it is there because we design with manufacture in mind from the first sketch. If something can’t be built as drawn, we’ll say so before you find out the hard way.

I’ve seen drawings come through from every kind of drafter. The ones that waste time are the ones that look polished but haven’t been thought through. We have engineering front-of-mind and we’re thinking through the manufacturing before we commit anything to a design.

What we design in CAD

Mining & Industrial Design

Product Design

  • New product design
  • Reverse-engineered components
  • Tool & jig design

Vehicle Design

  • Drones (air, land & sea)
  • Mobile plant design
  • Custom engine parts

CAD is the starting point for everything else we do

Good CAD geometry is not just a deliverable — it is the foundation for every downstream step. When we run Finite Element Analysis (FEA), we are running it on the geometry we built. If we prepare Certification documentation, the drawings come from the same model. When we hand off to Element Manufacturing for production, they receive native files that match how their machines work.

This matters because every time a model is rebuilt or translated between teams, errors are introduced. Keeping CAD, simulation and certification inside the same group — and in most cases the same engineer — removes that risk entirely.

Why choose Element Mechanical Design for CAD in Perth

Local engineers, not offshore drafters
You deal directly with the engineer doing the work. No account managers, no offshore teams, no waiting 24 hours for a reply because of a time zone.

Manufacturing knowledge built in
Our engineers understand how parts are made. DFM is not an afterthought — it is part of how we draw from the start.

Integrated with simulation and certification
Your CAD model does not need to be rebuilt for analysis or approval documentation. The same geometry carries through every downstream step.

Delivered complete
We do not issue drawings that need interpretation. Tolerances, surface finishes, GD&T, weld symbols — all present and correct before the file leaves us.

Connected to manufacturing
Your completed design can go straight to production with Element Manufacturing with no handover friction.

Frequently asked questions — CAD Perth

Software and files

What CAD software do you use?

Our primary platform is SolidWorks. We also work in Autodesk Inventor, Fusion 360 and CATIA depending on project requirements. If you are supplying existing geometry, we can work with STEP, IGES, DXF, Parasolid and most neutral formats. We do not charge extra to convert file formats.

Can you work from a sketch or a physical sample rather than existing CAD?

Yes. We work from sketches, hand drawings, photos and physical samples regularly. For existing parts with no drawings, we can reverse-engineer the geometry using measurement and produce a full CAD model and drawing package. This is common for obsolete components and legacy equipment modifications.

Do you supply native CAD files or just PDFs?

Both. We issue PDF drawings as standard and supply native files, STEP, IGES, DXF or STL on request. If your manufacturer has a preferred format, let us know at the start and we will set the project up to deliver it correctly.

Design and process

Can you design to Australian Standards?

Yes. We produce drawings to AS 1100 and apply GD&T to AS 1100.101 / ISO 1101. Where a project involves pressure equipment, structural steel or machinery, we design to the relevant standard from the outset so the drawings support certification without needing to be redone.

Do you do DFM review as part of the CAD work?

Every project includes a complimentary DFM review. We check the design against the intended manufacturing process and flag issues before the drawings are issued. If the process has not been decided yet, we will note options and their cost implications.

How long does a CAD project take?

It depends on complexity. A single machined component with a straightforward drawing can be completed in a day or two. A detailed multi-body machine assembly with a full drawing package may take one to three weeks. We will give you an honest timeline during the briefing call — not the one you want to hear, the one that is actually achievable.

What if I need changes after the drawings are issued?

Minor revisions during an active project are handled as part of the engagement. For significant scope changes or revisions requested after project close, we will give you a quote before proceeding. We are transparent about what constitutes a minor revision versus a change of scope.

Working with us

Can your CAD work feed directly into your FEA, DEM or CFD services?

Yes, and this is one of the main advantages of working with us rather than a standalone drafting firm. We run simulation directly on the geometry we build, so there is no risk of the analysis model diverging from the design intent. If your project needs both CAD and simulation, we scope them together from the start.

Can you design something that Element Manufacturing can then produce?

Yes. This is the most efficient path. We design it, they machine, fabricate or mould it. Both teams are part of the same group, so the DFM feedback we provide is based on their actual machines and processes. Additionally, the handoff requires no file translation or re-briefing. Contact elementmanufacturing.com.au directly or let us facilitate the introduction.

Do you work with clients outside Perth?

Yes. Most of our communication and file transfer happens remotely and we work with clients across WA and interstate. Perth-based clients who want face-to-face engagement at key stages are welcome to visit our Malaga facility.
